"A movie organizer for home theaters"

Changing Settings

The Settings Page is where to set up application settings and default display settings.  The Settings page is accessed by clicking on at the top left of any page. It defaults to displaying settings for your assigned display but you can display and edit settings for other displays as well.

How to use the screen

Select the display to modify on the left side and the right side shows the available settings. Change one or more settings and press save.

The right side contains settings organized into 5 or 6 (if modifying application settings) tabs.

General — includes basic settings (e.g. Show remote controller, Allow data editing)

Layout — page layouts settings (e.g. Show cast images, Specify image widths)

Player iPad — iPad streaming settings (e.g. Audio gain, Segment Duration)

Player VLC — VLC player settings (e.g. Default Volume Setting, Cache Setting)

Media (version 0.1.8+) - media file directories and file extensions (see Setting Media File Locations)

Custom Lists — manage display’s custom lists (see Modifying Custom List)

Protect - password protect the application (see Protecting Data)

Modifying Application [Default] Settings

The application settings and default display settings can be viewed and modify by selecting "[Default]" under application settings.

Restore Defaults

You may restore settings to default value (i.e. initial values when you first installed the application) when in the application settings page. The default settings only affect application settings and do not change other display settings except when a display setting is using the default display value. Media file locations, custom lists, displays (i.e. does not remove displays you created), and users are not affected when restoring defaults.

Selecting a Display to View/Modify Settings

In the “Displays” section, clicking on any display shows its settings on the right.  You can view or modify any display’s settings.  This does not change your assigned display.

Changing Your Assigned Display

To change your assigned display click on the “Change” link in the “My Display” section.

A small dialog displays and allows you to select a different display.  Use the drop down list to select a new display then click “Save.”  The Settings Page refreshes and show settings for your newly assigned display.

Creating a New Display

To create a new display click on the “New” link in the “Displays” section.

A small dialog displays and allows you to enter the name of the new display.  After entering the new display name click “Save” and the system creates a new display with default settings then refreshes the page to show settings for the new display.  From this point on you can make additional overrides.

Overriding Display Settings

Each display can be configure with it’s own settings.  To override the display’s default settings, first click on that display in the “Displays” section to bring it into view.   Uncheck the “Use default” box next to the setting you want to override.  This enables the value field which allows you to change the setting to something different from the default.  To revert back to the default, re-check the “Use default” box.  Any changes you make are not persisted until you hit the “Save” button.  The “Save” button’s color turns yellow if there are any unsaved changes.

Deleting a Display

To delete a display, first click on that display in the “Displays” section to bring it into view.  Then click on the “Delete” button to remove the display.  You are prompted with a confirmation dialog.  Click “OK” to delete.

Guest Display

The “Guest” display is used when a user connects to the system without having an assigned display. It can be modified but not deleted.

Managing a Display’s Custom Lists

This tab is where you can add, update, or delete custom lists attached to a display.  The screen is laid out to show an ordered list of custom lists on the left and a preview of the first 100 results of the selected custom list on the right.

Hiding a Custom List

To prevent a custom list from showing up in the custom list picker, uncheck the box to the right of the custom list.   Remember to save your settings.

Ordering Custom Lists

To re-order the custom lists, select the list you would like to move then use the arrow keys to adjust the location.  Remember to save your settings.

Deleting a Custom List

To delete a custom list, click on the X button.  You are prompted with a confirmation dialog.  Click “OK” to delete.  Remember to save your settings.

Editing a Custom List

To edit a custom list, click on the pen.  This brings the custom list into a dialog where you can edit it.  For instructions on how to modify your custom list see “Adding or Modifying a Custom List”.  Lastly, remember that custom lists are not saved until you save your settings.

Default Custom Lists

Some custom lists are inherited from the default display and cannot be edited or deleted. These displays are labeled as “Default.”   Even though you cannot modify these lists, you are still able to order and hide them.
