Remote Controller

The Remote Controller feature allows you to start and control a movie on a different display. By default this feature is disabled and is enabled in the Settings () page. When the Remote Controller feature is activated, two things change:

First, a remote icon () will appear on the top bar which will bring up the Remote Control dialog where you can control a movie playing on a remote display. Second, when starting a movie using the "Play" button, a separate dialog window displays giving you the option to choose a target display.

Starting the Movie on a Remote Display

Every "Play" button will invoke the dialog above and allow you to choose a display. Along with the display you can also specify starting position, format, and full-screen mode. The displays are updated in real-time, so new displays appears when they become available and dimmed when they are no longer active. When a display becomes unavailable it shows dimmed and displays an overlaying text describing the reason like "Unavailable --Offline--". Changing the format from DVD to Blu-Ray or vice versa can also change the state of a display, if that display does not support that format. For example in the picture above, the format is set to Blu-Ray but the display "Living Room(35)" does not handle Blu-Ray quality movies so it is disabled.

When the play dialog first appears it selects your current display by default. Full-screen mode is unchecked, "Start from" defaults to "Last Position", and format is set based on your preferred display format. If you decide not to use your current display and select a different one, the full-screen mode defaults to on.

Since version 0.1.8a your current display shows with a star icon in it.

Clicking the "Play" button closes the dialog and send the command to the server. The target display then picks up the command and start playing the movie.

Displays that are from iPad users cannot be remote controlled, however, you can still see the display and what is currently playing (as of version 0.1.8d).

A note about play history: The movie is added to the play history of the remote controller and target display.

Remote Controlling a Movie

To show the remote control dialog, click on the icon at the top. The Remote Control Dialog allows you to control any number of displays that are currently playing a movie. To control a display, select it, and immediately the bottom half of the screen populates with the remote for that display. You can control the position, volume (including mute), play/pause/stop, fullscreen, audio track, subtitle, crop ratio (IE only), and aspect ratio (IE only). To close the remote control dialog click the icon at the top-right of the dialog.
